past is present

A recital concept. These are works and composers that are not quite sure what to do with their moment in history, and actively look to the past in order to define their present and forge their vision for the future.

This is a musical exploration of nostalgia. Nostalgia is not only yearning for a place, but a different time. It’s yearning for that time as a place- “time” that we can physically visit. In the process, we romanticize and fantasize the past based on how we would like to interact with it. Sepia tone smooths over the rough edges and uncomfortable truths.
